 Wild Blueberries

Wild Blueberry Wine Recipe

Ingredients:

  • About 16 cups of wild blueberries (rinsed with cold water)
  • 1/4 teaspoon wine yeast
  • 1 gallon boiling water
  • 8 cups sugar

Wild Blueberry Wine

Direction:

  • Crush the fruit using your hands or a potato masher.
  • Place the crushed fruit in a large food bucket.
  • Pour the boiling water over the crushed fruit and stir using a long nonreactive spoon.
  • Strain the liquid using a cheesecloth while it is still hot.
  • Place the liquid into a large nonreactive pot.
  • Reheat the liquid and allow it to simmer for two minutes; then remove from the heat right away.
  • Place the liquid back to the bucket then add the sugar.
  • Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Sprinkle the yeast on top when the mixture has cooled to lukewarm.
  • Cover with a loose-fitting lid or a nylon stocking and allow to ferment for fourteen days.
  • Strain the liquid into a clean glass container and cover appropriately.
  • In six to twelve months the wine will be ready for bottling.
